The mid-season hiatus is finally over! At least, it is for those of us who've been watching episodes as they're released stateside. What fortuitous timing; they've returned just in time for me to... miss the next few weeks. Huh.
Well, I was still here this Saturday, and I wanted to share a few opinions. And post pictures of Carrot Top, because natch. As usual, this isn't a comprehensive review of what I saw--more "here's some things that stuck out to me/random thoughts I had while watching." If that sounds interesting to you, see what I had to say about the latest episode, below the break!

In Which Chris Complains About an Episode. A Lot.
A few weeks ago, I said this about A Royal Problem:
Didn't like it. Actually, hated it. Not quite as much as I hated stuff like Bats!, or... actually, it might be my second-least-favorite episode, after Bats! I'd have to think about it, but that would require thinking about it, which I really would rather not do.
Apparently, not many of you were terribly thrilled that I'd mention my opinion without justifying it. I've gotten comments and e-mails asking me to talk about the episode, multiple times from some people. I've been had my failure to say more about the episode than "I hated it, I don't wanna talk about it" called "the lazy way out" and "unprofessional."
Well, fine. Let's talk about A Royal Problem. Let's go through all the reasons I didn't like it. If you come here for fanfiction reviews, go ahead and close your browser now, and come back on Friday; otherwise, below the break is a whole bunch of bellyaching.

Episode Talk: S7E11, Not Asking for Trouble
I debated doing one of these; I think everyone else watched this episode a month ago, and have probably forgotten it by now. But dangit, I just got to see it for the first time this weekend, and I am gonna talk about it! Get my thoughts, after the break.

Episode Talk: S7E3, Flurry of Emotions
Well, did you all join me in watching that terribly disheartening mess they put on TV over the weekend? Did you cringe, as I did, at all the missed opportunities, the flatly boneheaded decisions by those in charge, and the questionable calls?
I'm talking about the Wild losing to the Blues, of course. Talk about a wasted year.
But from what I hear, there was another show in town on Saturday. Head down below the break, and I'll tell you what I thought of that, too.

Episode Talk: S7E01-02, Celestial Advice/All Bottled Up
Well, a new season has come, and I'm here to talk about it! Okay, about 90% of what I'm here to do is post screenshots of Carrot Top, but that's good too, right?
Oh, and happy Easter, I guess, if you're into that sort of thing. But below the break, we talk about only the important stuff: my opinions--arranged mostly as a mass of "here's something I think"s rather than as a cohesive review or summary--on the S7 opener!
And Carrot Top.

Episode Talk: S6E25-26, To Where and Back Again
Okay, now that I've had a couple of days to bask in the goodwill borne of longevity, it's time to squander it all by complaining about the show! That, or praising the parts you (yes, you) didn't like. Which will it be this week? You'll have to read to find out! Only one thing is certain when Chris starts talking episodes: there will be at least one screenshot of Carrot Top.
Episode thoughts, below the break.
Here we see Carrot Top and Berry Punch chatting as Starlight and Trixie return to Ponyville. Berry's in the middle of describing to Carrot Top how, while walking home from the bar last night, she observed a swarm of changelings descend upon the town, abduct several of the community's most prominent members, and fly off to parts unknown carrying the screaming Twilight and company and leaving behind several of their own number in disguise. Carrot Top, in turn, observes that changelings aren't exactly the most subtle of species, but that it could be worse. The fact that Twilight's shenanigans rarely result in the town being destroyed these days is a step up, at least. Both agree that the whole situation will probably sort itself out by tomorrow.
Later in the day, the two of them went to each of the "main six" in turn, demanding the fifty bits back which "we totally loaned you last week."

Books, Episodes, and Dead Mice
A bit of a grab-bag today, as I have several things I want to say a little bit about, but none which really merit an independent post. Also, this gives me an excuse to slap four different tags on a single post--there's no good reason why I want to do so (and I could get a couple more on there if I really wanted), but it amuses me, so we're doing that. Click below the break for a little Episode Talk, some Talk About Actual Books, and my patented Ramblings!
(And if you can't guess what the fourth tag is, you haven't been following this blog nearly long enough)

Episode Talk: S6E18, Buckball Season
Remember the good old days when Carrot Top was in virtually every episode? Sometimes on screen two or more times simultaneously when they showed a big crowd? Ah, for the good old days; nowatimes, we get her in a mere 1/3rd of all episodes (of course I counted). But we got to see her this weekend, which is doubly nice! Not only for the regular reason that Carrot Top is best pony, but also because work starts up on Tuesday, and I'm going to be starting at a new school, a new grade level, and... a new everything, basically. Stressful times, these.
But before we get to good ol' CT, let's talk about the episode itself! Click below for my mostly-disorganized impressions of Buckball Season.

Episode Talk: S6E16, The Times They Are A Changeling
I haven't been talking about the episodes recently because there's been a distressing dearth of Carrot Top over the past few weeks. In fact, the last three episodes have shown her exactly twice in total: both times were in Carts Before Horses, as she cheers the racers on.
Saturday's episode didn't have any Carrot Top, either--but, seeing as it's the long-awaited "so, what's the deal with Changelings, anyway?" episode, I had a few things to say about it. Head below the break for some straight-up opinionatin'.
Carrot Top and her little sister competed in the derby last year, but after a biased (and suspiciously Apple-centric) judging panel denied the Orange Arrow its rightful victory in the Most Traditional competition, she vowed never to have anything to do with the race, ever again. On the day of the derby, her friend Lily dropped by and asked if she wanted to go. After patiently listening for twenty minutes while Carrot Top detailed exactly why she would never be seen within a country mile of the stupid thing, Lily nonchalantly mentioned that Applejack and her sister were racing this year. "Apropos of nothing," Lily added, putting her word-a-day calendar to good use, "did you know that some ponies go to races just to see the crashes?"
This may not have been Carrot Top's proudest moment, but it certainly gave her a chance to put her word-a-day calendar to use: shadenfreude wasn't something she woke up that morning expecting to be able to work into a conversation, but life's funny like that sometimes.

Episode Talk: S6E6, No Second Prances
Trixie's back! And you know what that means: time to talk about Carrot Top!
...What? Oh, you think there's a better story to be had out of this episode? Well, you don't even know! Carrot Top's a huge Trixie fan, but she's never truly gotten to enjoy a Trixie show. The first time Trixie came to town, well...

...Let's just say, it turns out that the girls shouldn't have tried those funny-looking mushrooms Sparkler found growing in the Everfree. Several hours after the show, Derpy would find Carrot still standing there, staring with that same unblinking intensity at the long-empty stage. Carrot Top would eventually return home without the vaguest recollection of the content of the show she'd just seen, accompanied by a churning sense of disappointment.
Also, Rarity being a rhymes-with-witch to Carrot Top's visiting cousin, the inexplicably-named Carrot Bottom, really put a damper on the day.
And of course, the second time, it wasn't so much a "show" as a "hostile takeover."
But now! Now it's time for a new Trixie episode! Was it any good? Does Carrot finally get to see the ultimate act in stage magic, preferably while not in the grip of a powerful hallucinogen? A few thoughts of mine, below.

Episode Talk: S6E4, On Your Marks
The CMC are back in a meaningful role for the first time since they got their cutie marks! Oh, uh, spoiler alert, I guess; sorry if you were half a year behind on the show but still holding out hope of catching up someday. Well, now that you're caught up (don't worry, I'm pretty sure that absolutely nothing else of note has happened between that episode an this), let's talk about the newest show episode. As always, this isn't a comprehensive review; instead, it's more of a collection of the individual things that stuck out to me, together with some images of Carrot Top. Actually, a bunch of images this time, at least relatively speaking--we're moving ever closer to the day when I make a post that's nothing but screenshots of every individual frame in which she appears. Check it out, below!

Episode Talk: S6E1-2: The Crystalling
Hey, you're here for fanfic, right? Well, DannyJ just published a new story that I did a spot of editing for: The Devil's Dues is the story of Discord, post-reformation, seeking to reconcile his desire to be a good "person" with his fundamental nature--all while confronting beings whose very nature is antithetical to his. Go check it out!
But of course, we also have the show coming back, so let's not forget the source material! As a refresher, this is not a review of the episode; I'm sure plenty of youtubers are already putting together far more thorough analyses of the season six premier than I would. Instead, think of this as "a few of Chris's opinions, observations, and tangents," more designed to frame what I thought of the episode than to provide any sort of objective commentary. That said, let's dive in:

Episode Talk: S5E25-26, The Cutie Re-Mark
We got our last episode of the season over the weekend--a two-parter, no less--and presumably the last for some time, complete with Starlight Glimmer's return, post-apocalyptica, and all the rest. So, was it any good?
Well, as usual, I'll leave reviewing the episodes to the numberless masses of youtube folk who enjoy doing that. I will, however, share some personal opinions on quality, coherence, impact on headcanon, and the like. And I'll probably include some screenshots of Carrot Top. Look, if you don't want Carrot Top screenshots, I don't know what you're doing here; clearly, you hate all things good and right in the world, and should probably go back to framing puppies for arson, or whatever it was you were doing before you came here. Anyway, thoughts on The Cutie Re-Mark, below!

Episode Talk: S5E18, Crusaders of the Lost Mark
I don't normally do this in back-to-back weeks... but then, MLP doesn't usually have two episodes in a row that I have a bunch of opinions about. As always, this isn't a comprehensive review; think of it as "a bunch of Chris's opinions on what he watched." So go get some slightly-late opinions, below the break!

Episode Talk: S5E17, Brotherhooves Social
I've idly mused on trying to brew my own beer in the past, so for my birthday, my sister got me an everything-included beer-making starter kit; it comes with all the equipment, mash and yeast for your first batch, etc. So this weekend, I thought I'd get that first batch going... only to discover that the one thing that isn't included is a handful of chestnuts, which you're supposed to boil with the mash. I don't even know where to get chestnuts; do they sell them at grocery stores? Eh, I'll figure it out next week; if I'm lucky, I'll have home brew in time for Thanksgiving, at least.
But hey, Saturday wasn't a total bust; at least we got another new episode! Click below to see my slightly-delayed thoughts on it. As usual, I'm saving the true analysis for the legions of episode reviewers who enjoy doing that; what follows are more "reactions and things that caught my eye." Onward!

Episode Talk: S5E12, Amending Fences
Remember to pop over here and answer a few questions for me, if you're so inclined!
In fact, this is your last chance; I'll be closing the poll down tomorrow, and based on the responses I've already gotten, doing a post about the results later this week. If you want to indulge me, you're almost out of time!
But in any case, feel free to click down below the break to check out my thoughts on Saturday's episode.

Episode Talk: S5E9, Slice of Life
We'll be doing something a little different, today. Instead of talking about whatever little things I noticed or favorite/least favorite scenes (let's face it, this episode's been analyzed to death already, and it only aired two days ago), I'm just going to talk about how I felt about it, and what, if anything, there is to take away from it going forward. My thoughts, below the break.

Episode Talk: S5E5, Tanks for the Memories
I had a ton of stuff to do this weekend, and I did almost none of it. I watched some hockey, it's true, and I finished some reading I needed to get done by Monday, but that was it. Yard? Nope. Cleaning the living room? Please. Grocery shopping? Eh, I can live off cans of stuff from the pantry for a few more days.
I did manage to make time to watch the new MLP episode, though! Click down below the break for some thoughts on it, post-48-hour cooldown.
