Something about colors, something about mommy hurting me, then daddy comes home, hospital, mommy gives me bubbles, and then nothing. And I was like, what the buck was that?
Spoilers here.
Then somepony mentioned, poison, which I did not remember reading about. So I went back, and I recognized it this time. She tried to poison Derpy. Then she abducted her and took her out to abandon her in the wild, left her for dead. And my tear ducts don't activate but my heart starts shooting me with such intense pain I may as well be crying. Very touching story indeed. I wish I knew who the author was but, hey it's not about being famous, it's about touching the hearts of as many ponies as possible.Minjask6572https://www.blogger.com/profile/12410207249696334273noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8184562969471581744.post-4668710843378656662011-12-15T12:39:29.746-06:002011-12-15T12:39:29.746-06:00It's funny; when I read this, though I found i...It's funny; when I read this, though I found it touching, I actually recall feeling that Bubbles was rather heartwarming, of all things. I certainly did not cry (and it's so easy to make me cry, too), which surprised me, since that seems to be the general reaction to Bubbles.Present Perfecthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16195959811544391904noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8184562969471581744.post-36057430342423735662011-11-10T05:45:42.011-06:002011-11-10T05:45:42.011-06:00This is one of those stories that, you are right, ...This is one of those stories that, you are right, goes over the head of some readers. The 'retarded' language within is done for a point, and that point is to hear the inner monologue of Derpy when being placed expertly in her "retarded" personality.

If you're not able to grasp that, you may simply pass off the retarded writing as a third-grader's poor attempt at fiction. In reality it's a very, very powerful tool because, as you said, the reader is left to infer at the subtle horror happening around the oblivious, innocent and badly abused Derpy.

The ending was, I think, one of choice. A place to leave it which is both bereft of hope yet points to a happy ending. I'm reluctant to give spoilers, but I'm pretty sure everyone would have read this story by now if they're interested enough to read comments. So, spoilers follow.

When she's abandoned, she gets her cutie-mark. We know she survives, so maybe being finally abandoned by her mother - the one who tried at least twice to kill her - marked an improvement in what is in reality a tragically painful childhood. It's catharsis, that sort of painful heart-ache which burns every time you recall it.

It was to emulate such that I wrote my own sadfics, finally - a sadfic to genuinely cause emotion without resorting to blase and base "and then they all died".midnight shadownoreply@blogger.com
