Thanks for taking the time to do it. Not being a Warhammer fan, I'm plenty flattered to have kept your interest.

"I don't think you realize how solid a three-star rating is."

I probably don't. I've been in the fanfiction scene long enough that my basic expectations for writing have probably been knocked down several pegs. I have no idea what would meet the (presumably) Godlike standards of a four-star or five-star review.SFaccountantnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8184562969471581744.post-38122691744522232552015-03-09T08:18:00.422-05:002015-03-09T08:18:00.422-05:00I don't think you realize how solid a three-st...I don't think you realize how solid a three-star rating is. This isn't an A-B-C-D-F scale, where three stars means pretty pedestrian but acceptable. There are plenty of the old six-star reviews that got lower ratings.Pascoitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05861834765162800926noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8184562969471581744.post-48162404630733449242015-03-07T20:15:09.129-06:002015-03-07T20:15:09.129-06:00I don't know whether you'd like it more or...I don't know whether you'd like it more or less, but I would wager that you'd enjoy the humor... as much as I'd wager on my ability to predict your taste in comedy in the first place, anyway!Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11581572699330155065noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8184562969471581744.post-28757533377935336402015-03-07T20:10:50.633-06:002015-03-07T20:10:50.633-06:00I don't know if I'll give any further read...I don't know if I'll give any further reading a separate full review or just put it in a mini-review, but either way I'll be sure to comment on it when I do--the trick is just finding enough reading time for everything I want to get through!

Sorry I came up a star short of what you were hoping for, but I hope it's some consolation that I got a lot of laughs out of Planetfall; I enjoyed reading it, and look forward to continuing through the sequels!Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11581572699330155065noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8184562969471581744.post-52203833904512478112015-03-07T11:54:45.050-06:002015-03-07T11:54:45.050-06:0040K crossovers can be really hit or miss. There was a fic I read about the Angry Marines once, who are a fan-made parody Space Marine chapter and also kind of a minor meme, and I laughed like a maniac at that, even if it was pretty trashy.
DannyJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13273313206696087395noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8184562969471581744.post-42597577575179873732015-03-06T11:32:08.629-06:002015-03-06T11:32:08.629-06:00Well, I have to admit I'm disappointed by the ...Well, I have to admit I'm disappointed by the three-star rating, but I can't fault the logic behind it. I had hoped to make the story accessible to people with only basic 40K knowledge, but that was always going to be a challenge to fit such an expanse of relevant background story into the plot (and Omnissiah knows my chapters are long enough as they are).
I was very pleased to hear that the reviewer didn't get bored or lost at any point, and that I succeeded in managing the parallel plot elements. I was hoping that would have been good for a fourth star, but I did resort to the fourth-wall jokes.
I'm not sure if you do separate reviews for multi-part stories, but if so I humbly await your judgment on Book 2 and onward, or until your interest wanes.SFaccountantnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8184562969471581744.post-75584424211849796552015-03-06T05:52:24.346-06:002015-03-06T05:52:24.346-06:00That second comedy example is hilarious. :D
W40K ...That second comedy example is hilarious. :D

W40K seems to be the holy grail of crossovers, a combination everyone familiar with it tries eventually just because it doesn't seem possible to mesh the two settings. My familiarity with the game is only slightly less vague than most (I remember older gaming friends in college waxing long about it), but my favorite crossover fic (okay, the only one I've read) is still Archives of the Friendquisition. It works because, while wholly a serious fic, the combination of the two is comical (the pie fight from Over a Barrel is writ large into baked ammunition for all) and the characters are really memorable. It's still 40k overlaid on ponies, but I think it works. :BPresent Perfecthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16195959811544391904noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8184562969471581744.post-21819751352659800572015-03-06T03:20:23.433-06:002015-03-06T03:20:23.433-06:00I'm let to wonder whether I'd actually enj...I'm let to wonder whether I'd actually enjoy this more or less for having a solid familiarity with 40K. It sounds like my kind of comedy, at the very least.InquisitorMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10209346997929773686noreply@blogger.com
